I own an Acer Aspire One A150-Bw (seashell white) it's a 8.9" LCD netbook with N270 CPU and a i945GMS chipset with a i950GMA inside, the HD is a 160Gb@5400rpm and the istalled memory was originally of 1Gb (512Mb on board+512Mb on a module), now the RAM is 1,5Gb.
It has a standard amount of connections ports, 3 USB2, 1 ethernet LAN, 1 standard VGA 15 pins, 1 mic jack and 1 headphone jack and 2 slots for memory cards, one only for SD cards and one multy (SD, XD, Memory Stick...). The wirless connection is assured by a Atheros AR5BX card with standard G, there isn't any Bluetooth chip inside!
The pc, considering the hardware, is fast and reactive, I use Ubuntu Linux with an optimized kernel (2.6.30-5 Skumpic), by now with this kernel and the intel driver integrated I can get the fastest vga capabilities, I can run compiz desktop with the various desktop effects enabled and have a compizbenchmark not under 50fps with a youtube flash running and the cube desktop in rotation!!! I can also play Enemy Territory and Quake on the web. I can also get a video from an analogue camera Hi8 thru a Dazzle DVC-101 with cheese, the resolution is set medium but the result is not bad!
The AOA 150 is very beatiful and solid but it's not the best netbook!
For this kind of pc the powerfull CPU is the N280 wich runs at 1.66Ghz@667fsb the N270 runs a bit lower, 1.6Ghz@533Mhz but the speedest bus of the first enache also the global system frequency, RAM and VGA runs faster than with a N270.
Generally a netbook equpped with N280 CPU allows to use an amount of 2Gb of RAM.
The wireless connection is the base for a netbook and a standard N is the best by now, not so important is the Bluetooth but it's better havig it and with a 2+EDR standard.
Many are the netbooks with this hardware inside but there is one that have one more feature.
The capability of OVERCLOCKING the sistem by pressing some keys!
This is the MSI U100 plus series, the overclock capability is guaranteed by the MSI bios, while you are running your SO, on demand, you can overclock by pressing two keys.
In my opinion the beautiful netbooks are acer's but also MSI is good.
Ciao, anche alcuni Asus hanno la possibilità di effettuare l'overclock in maniera semplice. Sul mio EEEPC 1101HA basta ad esempio cliccare sull'apposita icona nella System Tray e selezionare Super Performance Mode. Purtroppo questa modalità è attivabile solo con l'utility Super Hybrid Engine per Windows, non so se esiste una applicazione simile anche per Linux.
RispondiEliminaIl processore Z520 montato sullo 1101 pur avendo velocità di clock inferiori all'N270 presenta ottimizzazioni superiori atte a garantirgli performance di tutto rispetto, al punto che in regime di overclock supera in velocità reale gli N270/280 (a parità di mhz).
Il vero punto di forza di questa CPU è però, a mio avviso, il basso consumo energetico. Pur avendo uno schermo più grande del 1005 (altro eeepc) permette di ottenere quasi un'ora in più di autonomia dalla batteria a 6 celle: oltre 7 ore effettive contro 5.5 circa.
OK, a questo punto si sarà capito che allo stato attuale il miglior netbook, almeno per le mie esigenze, è l'Asus EEEpc 1101HA :)

Per quanto ho potuto constatare i netbook con tecnologia Menlov (cpu serie Z5xx+chipset serie SCH US15) non godono di buone performance soprattutto in ambiente linux. Le cause di ciò sono una inferiore velocità del bus generale fissato a 533 ma soprattutto del chip video integrato che è il GMA500. Nonostante sia cpu che chipset appaiano tecnologicamente più avanzati rispetto alla tecnologia Diamondville (cpu serie N2x0+chipset i945GSE) le prestazioni rimangono inferiori e questo sembrerebbe causa dei drivers che i programmatori di intel stessi sembra non riescano a scrivere adeguatamente. Si attendono a tutt'ora dei rilasci che sistemino la situazione.
RispondiEliminaCi sono poi altre considerazioni da fare, è vero che il GMA500 gestisce in hardware la codifica di vari formati video ma per quanto riguarda le pure prestazioni grafiche 3D si ritrova in netto svantaggio rispetto al GMA950 sia come clock che come tecnologia e ad aggravare la situazione si deve tener conto che mentre il GMA950 gestisce lcd da 1024x600 pixel la GMA500 ne gestisce in formato HD (1366x768) questo significa che anche se i video supportati godono di accelerazione grafica, tutte le altre applicazioni al contrario sono pesantemente rallentate graficamente.
Personalmente non considero l'utilizzo sotto sistemi M$ perché utilizzo esclusivamente linux ma anche lì la situazione non è molto migliore.
Andando sul pratico con prove dirette e sistema operativo linux i netbook con tecnologia Melnow risultano nettamente inferiori a quelli con tecnologia Diamondville soprattutto quelli con N280.
Parlando poi di Overclock il bello dei netbook MSI serie U100 e altri è che l'overclock lo si effettua via bios con una combinazione di tasti qualsiasi sistema operativo si usi. Overclokkando sia uno z520 che un N280 non ho dubbi che il migliore risulti l'ultimo! Se poi uno è innamorato del display HD ed accetta i compromessi allora è un altro discorso...
